Naming your German Shepherd

December 22nd, 2011

Sometimes people find it harder to name their pets than their children. After all, with a child’s name it’s usually the decision of just the parents. But when it comes to a family pet, everyone wants to weigh in on the dog’s name. You want to make sure that it’s the perfect name for your new pet. And if you have a German Shepherd, then finding a name befitting of such a large and dignified dog can be challenging. You want to make sure that you pick a name that suits the dog and you. Here are some suggestions for German Shepherd names.

Famous dog names

There are several famous German Shepherds that you can name your dog after.

Bullet – This was a family pet owned by Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, but Bullet also appeared on the Roy Rogers Show.

Rin Tin Tin – This is perhaps the most famous of all German Shepherds. You can also choose Rinny or Tinny as variations on the name.

Clipper – Clipper was former president John F. Kennedy’s pet dog and was known to be very protective of Jackie.

“Big” names

Another way to go is to give your German Shepherd a name worthy of its size.

Thunder – If you have a barrel of a dog who comes thundering in when called, then this is the perfect name.

Bruno – This name just sounds like it should belong to a big dog.

King – Does your shepherd act like the king of the house?

Queenie – Because female shepherds can act like royalty, too.
